Reading Gmail Atom Feed with Wget

Hello! Let me ask some help for the techies out there.

I wanna hack the Macopix dolls so that they warn me of new mail on gmail (for more on Macopix, check the links page). So I decided the easiest way would be to add a Atom feed parser on them.

I tried using wget to get the feed to my computer, but it seems that wget doesn’t grock gmail authentication, giving me a 401 unauthorized response. It SEEMS to me that wget is not understanding the https protocol, it does not send messages about sending or receiving the username and password. The problem is, wget WAS supposed to understand https. I wonder if the Debian/Sarge version of wget is stripped of that functionality, or if I’m missing some library.

Anyone care to help?

Oh, BTW, the spider made another eggsac under the lamp hood. The new one is still undisturbed. I wonder if the eggsac remains the same even after the little spiders getting out of it…

"The time-honored "I now pronounce you man and wife" at weddings has largely been replaced by "I now pronounce you husband and wife". Some etymologists find this amusing, as "wife" is Old English for "woman", while "husband" is Old English for "householder"; the original expression was meant to define a moment when both members of a couple officially and legally became equally committed to adulthood."
