Vegard Hartmann

Today’s mistery is: Where in the world is Vegard Hartmann?

Now last month I read this article in GECCO 2005 - “Evolving Agent Swarms for Clustering and Sorting”. It was quite an interesting article, and I wanted to use it on my ongoing research. The article dealt only with the use of artificial data, and I thought I could try it on some gene expression data we work on my lab.

However, I ran into some problems while trying to reimplement the article’s system here which are not covered in the paper. Incredible how one only notices obvious flaws in ideas when he tries to put them in practice.

So I tried to contact the Author (Hartmann), and to my surprise, the mail listed on the article bounced back on me with a “user non existant”. I tried to google his name, and only found some brief references in score pages in his university. No homepage or anything else which could pass for contact information.

Did I reach a dead end here?

Hi! I studied with Vegard, and did some research in the same field (check out my paper too (from ECAL 2005), if you are interested in this kind of thing) He finished his Masters’ degree this spring, so his account at the university must have expired. Regretfully, I don’t have his new email address. Try contacting his advisor, Keith Downing (keithd@idi.ntnu.no). You can also find Vegards thesis at http://daim.idi.ntnu.no/search.php?dokid=2

I’ll contact professor Keith as soon as possible :-)
