Neurotic Girl - Part 1

This is the original “Neurotic Girl” post, which I deleted a while ago, with minor edits. Thanks for Ferdi for still having a cached copy of it. So so far my blog has been censured only twice. Yay.

I must say that, indeed, bad news attract much more people than good news. Such is the world, I guess.

This was a great weekend. A friend of mine spent some time at my place, and we had all sorts of silly and serious chat, which brought me a lot of interesting insights. We also had pillow fights and chocolate.

But, since good news do not attract people, I’ll write about those last 4 hours in my sunday, which made me completely stressed out, and with a splitting headache to boot.

So I meet this girl on the japanese orkut somewhere in the beginning of this week. We start exchanging lots of e-mails. She has an interest in learning portuguese. An artsy type.

She sent me a link to a portuguese-japanese online dictionary, and was mightly pissed off when I copyed that link in my blog, saying that I shouldn’t publicize our private conversations (even though there was no mention to her at all). Then in another conversation she told me how “She likes brazillian, but can’t stand how they always lie without caring and speak nice things but don’t mean them.” and “Call everyone a friend without meaning it” and complaining about how she was harassed by brazillians before. Well, that is a strange way to like people, but since she was talking to me, I decided to keep up the chat.

She kept telling me that ’she hated lies, and was always frank’, so I understood “Great, she wants someone for some fun and careless internet flaming - looks fun”.

I thought I had got it right, for she invited me to a party with her friends. The party itself was actually fun, but she would keep picking on the fight with “Foreigner crime is rising”, “Brazillians are liars”, and “I can’t think of marrying my boyfriend - brazillians divorce for nothing”. Which I took as an invitation for debate, and replied with similar observations about japanese society. All of this in laughing tones, among games of poker, talks about adult toys, and some food.

Except that when I leave the train back home, I started getting a slew of cellphones e-mails of her “How can you be so insensitive?”, “How can you tell me such terrible things”, “You foreigners don’t know the meaining of Reigi (etiquete)”, and “You should be thankful that I was gentle to invite you to have fun with my friends”.

Whoa whoa whoa!

Now who started the nationality bashing here? I guess that is the problem of speaking too freely while not being prepared to listen freely as well.

And worse thing is, I wasn’t mad at all, so this caught me by surprise. I the end I just told her that I couldn’t understand what she was so pissed about, so she should just get some rest and talk to me later.

I guess I won’t be hearing from her again

And in the end, I did hear from her again. Well, I think she’ll find that her complaints will fall on deaf ears from now on.

However, I can’t really say this satisfies me. But it seems that I can’t keep someone who WANTS to hate from hating.

Man, you got that right. Nobody can keep one from hating, if one wants to hate.

But I like the good part. I wish I can have an evening with pillow fights, bedtime stories, etc. :o).
