Nice site
Recently I’ve been playing quite a while with Pandora Internet Radio, by Ferdi’s suggestion. Pandora is a website where you can listen to streaming music. The nice part about it is that it seems that the music selection is done by IEC (interactive evolutionary computation).
In other words, from what I could understand so far, the site categorizes all the music it has by tempo, style, accords, and many other characteristics. It uses these characteristics on a function which scores the song, and uses these scores to decide wether to play the song or not. Then you can say if you liked or not the song, and your replies will change the scoring function.
Or at least that is how I imagine it works.
Anyway, the result is that you can, by selecting which musics you like and don’t like, get a stream of music with some similar characteristics. For instance, I developed a a Capella stream, a Jazz stream, and a MPB stream. Quite nice.
And on the other news: I’m a damn liar. Another couple of Jeovah witnesses knocked on my door again today. They wanted to push me a ream of their pamphlets - I dodged it by saying I can’t read japanese (basic Gaijin defensive technique!) then they pulled the classical list of pamphlets in about-just-damn-language-in-earth, and asked me what language I could speak.
While replying that I was completely illiterate was a bit too much, I decided to tell them that, being from Brazil, I could only read “brazillian”. Luckly, they didn’t seem to have anything in that language to give me.

Good! I will tell my students next time that Brazilians speak Portugese so if they want to become such Jeovah witnesses they’d better have their pamphlets in Portugese.

They knocked on my door too, but did not bother me too much when I told them that I am a Buddhist. They were the only uninvited visitors to my place other than the NHK guy, and certainly were not as troublesome as he was :-p.
Jeovah witnesses behave much worse in our country. They plot to tarnish the images of head priests of other religions, and actually got caught responsible for killing a famous monk.
