Why not the US?
Sometimes people ask me why I came to Japan, and not the US, given that the US has “better” universities.
One of the reasons, at least.
But if you think about it, japan has its police-state quirks as well, specially towards foreigners. I should really try living in one of those european countries. I still will.

My only visit to the US did not leave a good impression. In downtown Atlanta, there was a sign:
“No cruising allowed: passing this sign more than once between 10:00pm and 6:00am is an offence”
From other recent news, like throwing out a 7-year old student from her school for hugging another, do not improve the impression I have. The place seems to be becoming an extremist state.
With the news of increasing racism in Europe, I would like a more mixed place, such as New Zealand or Canada.

Well, just to keep the crazyness going on:

in UK, three 12-year olds were arrested for climbing a tree and trying to make a treehouse out of its branches.
Whoa!

> Their shoes were removed and mugshots, DNA samples and mouth swabs were taken.
This is real crazy! For once i thought if the article was on http://www.theonion.com

I guess that the rumors that our generation had the last “happy childhood” were true…
