1 week vacations

One week ago I finally submitted my Master Thesis. After a few months of a semi-enclosured life, I finally had some time for myself. Hooray!

The best way to spend your free time is near people you like. So I packed up things and headed to Marilia’s place. She was going to spend two weeks in SE-Asia, so we decided to have some time together before then.

So, here I present to you: 5 ways to spend some quality time without spending money or effort:

  1. Go to Shimizu Koen. This is a park located at the Shimizu Koen station in the Tobu-Noda Line. In the park they have this “adventure space”, where you can run three different obstacle courses for about 700 Yen. Each obstacle course consists of about 40 obstacles that require you to jump over water with a rope, walk on a woobly bridge, climb wooden walls, and other things. It looks tiring, but is actually very fun, specially with lots of pre-teens doing the course along with you - don’t be fooled by this, many obstacles are challenging for adults as well.
  2. Go see Transformers, the new movie. We went to the Movix, near Kashiwa-no-Ha Campus station (Tsukuba Express Line), which is a very good theater compared to what you can find in Shinjuku or Shibuya. The movie itself was really nice. Even Marilia who never saw transformers (or so says she), liked it, but the film do contains lots of fanservice.
  3. Go see the Tokyo Pride Parade. Okay, maybe this one will have to wait until next year, but it was interesting to participate on an event to raise awareness on a social issue. I heard another similar event is the “March in March” which deals with work law issues.
  4. Grab old B movies! We rented the three cubes (Cube, Cube 2, and Cube 0) from Tsutaya, a video rental store near Marilia’s dorm at Seijogakuenmae station. While Cube is always nice to watch, the sequels unfortunately did not live up to the original - Cube 2 particularly sucked, Cube 0 was not
half bad. We’ve also seen “Weatherman”, which Yenni brought to us on sunday, but this one does not qualifies as an old movie, I guess.

  5. Eat icecream at 31! There is this ice cream shop chain called 31 (something robins, I can’t remember). In seijogakuen mae, they exist inside the Shakey’s pizza store, but there is another one
in the Mall near my home. They have different mixed flavors (the only “normal” flavor there was vanilla), of which a few are rotated every month. Prices range from 250 to 500 yens.

This are some suggestions for a fun week :-) Now the vacation is semi-over, so I must go back to my personal and academics projects, but I’ll leave that for a following post.
