Mobile Ringtones

One day Ogawa san taught me how to make cellphone ringtones out of ordinary midi. In this page I’ll share with you the basic steps and some ringtones I’ve made with it.

Which Cellphones does it work with?

So far, I have played this tones suscessfully in the following models:

  • Sony Ericsson A1404S (AU)

If you have success playing this file in other kinds of cellphones, please leave me a notice so I can add to this list.

How do you do it?

First things first, you need a midi file (which you can use a program to create yourself, or download from many places in the net), then you need to convert it to the MMF format (why can’t these celphones just play MIDI directly?). A MIDI/MMF converter can be found below. The program is in japanese, but its use should be pretty straight forward. You click the first icon to load a MIDI file, and the second icon turns it into a MMF file. The program ask you by a filename, but ignores it and use the same filename as the midi file, with an MMF extension. Ok, I don’t understand it completely, when I do, I’ll update this page.

Some favorite ringtones

Below are some ringtones I have converted myself, or been contributed by friends. If you have any interesting suggestions, contributions, feel free to drop me a note. To use them, download the files and send them to your cellphone (via cable or e-mail).
