The Examined Life, Week 08
2026 February 20Well, so much for new year resolutions. I guess I'm back to my old shenanigans, but let's try to take stock of the last few weeks.
These past days at work have been a mess. My students graduated without problems, which is nice, but other than that work has been suffocating, with lots of meaningless meetings, reports, and other small tasks. In January I thought I could take February and March to advance my personal projects, but that is starting to look unlikely...
On a brighter note, the Arden Vul TTRP campaign is going strong. One of the first games of the year almost finished in a TPK, but the players went through it like it was nothing. We're on the 29th session now, and still nowhere near done -- it is a big dungeon.
Also a couple weeks ago, I set up comments on the blog. At first I was surprised that there was just a trickle of spam comments, but they are in full force now. Not sure if I try to tighter it up, or just take it down.
The thing I'm looking forward to is the 7DRL challenge, which will kick off in two weeks. I'm not feeling very confident right now, but it will be nice to have a change of pace.
Recent Media:
-
Gachiakuta: Watched this anime a few weeks ago, and rather liked it. It is your standard shounen fare: boy gets special powers, finds friends with special powers, and try to change the world, fighting rivals with special powers. But it has a very strong and unique identity, and the episodes have a nice pace to them. Trigger warning for a very direct (but not explicit) depiction of parental abuse in one of the earlier episodes.

Raven in the inner palace: This is a bit of a weird one. I'm watching it right now, and I don't think I would recommend it, but it stands out because at first I thought it was a cheap copy of "Apothecary Diaries", but it turns out that it is almost the opposite, with its strict focus on magic and the occult.

Terraria: Way too much terraria this past month. The update didn't even add that much, I just fell into a hole. Stay away.

Looking forward to: Core keeper and Timberborn updates, and the release of Slay the Spire 2, all in early March.
