Cat Trip -- Pictures

2026 February 23

This is the picture album for the post about my Cat Trip. Sorry, actually not that many cat pictures here.

There is probably a better way to do this in eleventy, but for now, please enjoy my hand-crafted html tables. Feel free to "right-click" and "open picture in new tab" to see the full-sized picture!

Taifu Kajitsu is a very nice cafe behind Nijo. It has two cats.

There are many cute decorations in the cafe, like these cat dolls

Cute menu. The cafe specializes in senzai and tea (no coffee, actually!)

Chocolate Senzai. Not sweet! (Except for the little jam)

Coconut Pudding, bean paste, mochi, tapioca, and kinaco powder

Comemorative plaque for the Kyoto Protocol

Kyoto Imperial Palace - Main audience hall, I think?

Kyoto Imperial Palace - I just liked the composition.

This shrine was known for its cats. We saw one on their way out.

This river crosses Kyoto and has several shops on both sides. Very nice for a walk, followed by dinner.

This Macdonalds looks like it took over a Koban's building

Another "cat" temple, they were having a small market. I guess that scared the cats away.

Same temple as before. I really like it when the old gates are full of stickers like this

At a museum - the explanation would switch between English and Japanese depending on the angle

A vending machine with edible insects. For your inner Frog.

A shopping street in Kyoto. We passed by several during this street. There are very few where I live, so they make me feel like a tourist again.

The International Manga Museum in Kyoto. More a library than a museum, really!

We went there for the "Nyaight of the Living Cat" exhibition. These are original prints of the first two volumes.

You can take books from inside the museum (built inside an old school) to read in this open area.

A cat lounging very decadently at Diorama Cafe

The cats at the Diorama Cafe were very used to people. The white one would prowl the customers to see if there was any food it could steal. The black one was a dear, unless other cats were nearby while it ate -- it would punch them with abandon.

By the way, you can make a post invisible on 11ty by adding eleventyExcludeFromCollections: true to its header. You can access the post directly from links, but it won't show up on archives, rss feed, etc. The variable name is a bit of a mouthful.
