Tokyo Game Dungeon
2026 November 01Wow, it has been a hot minute since my last blog post... This saturday I went to Tokyo Game Dungeon, an indie game event that happens a few times per year in Tokyo (and apparently now in Osaka too).
I had a splitting headache that day, so I just stayed for a little bit, and did not see that many games, but that just makes this blog post easier, to write, hehe.
First I played Nice Disc from Nice Gear. This is a "everyone fight everyone else" kind of game, which is usually not my jam (too chaotic), but there were three other very excited kids playing together, and that was fun. I highly recommend the platformer Hamayumishi, from the same people!
After that, I approached a booth with a lonely looking dev with a very simple game about a chicken going down the tower. This game was Tower O-ven, and it was suprisingly fun! There is power in simplicity and all that. Also the ONE song of this game really rocks, hehe.

Then I came across the booth of Amusement Creators, the gamedev circle from the University of Tsukuba. They were showing 4 simple games, and I played one that was a top-down action dungeon, where your character had to spin a blade around itself. Spinning faster caused more damage. The game was pretty fun until I got the boomerang upgrade, which made my blade fly off out of control every now and then, then the game go hilarious. After playing the game, I told them I worked in Tsukuba, and things got really awkward. Oops.
Next I stopped at the "Magic Box" booth - I always make sure to check them out when going to TGD, because their old school games are really my jam. This time they were showing their upcoming vertical shooter Cosmo Piercers, and an extremely cute platformer Steeplejack. I spent some time playing Steeplejack, and lost my second life in a very silly manner, as I threw a bomb on a platform to bring down a chest, and the chest fell on top of my head... ouch.

Finally, an honorable mention to the "beer game", which had a custom controller in the shape of a bear that you used to toast with the rhythm of the song.
That's it for this time! I hope next TGD I'm feeling more energetic and can play more stuff.
